Christmas Day Menu

We are iced in and uncertain when we’ll be able to venture out (safely) again.  Church was rescheduled for Saturday morning due to the weather–a great decision, since chains are required to drive today and it’s just easier and safer to stay home.  Today, I was able to sleep until almost 10am before the natives [...]

Snippets: But God…

And you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience—among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires [...]

Funny Conversations: Unusual Excuses

Mom:  Evan, I told you to get your math and get to the table.
Evan:  (with light saber in hand) But I’m practicing the Jedi arts!

Snow!

We’re experiencing an unusual winter weather event that looks like it might hang around for awhile.  Most of the Portland area school districts have already canceled school for tomorrow.  Kendall is adamant that our homeschool should also close. Except for the cafeteria, she says.  That must remain open.  =)

The Forgetful Tooth Fairy

We don’t do Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny, but the Tooth Fairy is alive and well in our household.  Kendall’s been on to us for years, but we told her that the Tooth Fairy doesn’t visit unbelieving children so, preferring cold, hard cash over truth,  she scoffs in private.
Unfortunately, our tooth fairy is very [...]

Meal Planning with Flexibility

My friend Loraena recently blogged about some cooking exploits.  I attempted to answer some of her questions in a comment but it got a bit long, so I decided to blog my answers instead.

How do you plan your meals and stay flexible?  I plan about two weeks worth of meals at a time, including ideas [...]

Name two words…

I’m trying to catch up on paper-grading.  I’m really, really far behind.  So this morning, while Evan was having his piano lesson, I was trying to get through seventeen weeks of his Daily Language Review book.  I ran across this in week 6:
Name two words in the -ill family.
His answer:  Kill Bill
I’m sure he has [...]

Not Dyslexia, but Something…

Evan gets letters mixed up.  He always has.  When he sees “C”, he says “S”, and vice-versa.  When he sees “V”, he says “F”, and vice-versa.  If I question him, he is able to correct himself (sometimes after a couple tries).  It makes reading the eye chart at the eye doctor very interesting–I know he’s [...]
